Going Blue was founded in 2019 by Jay Laine, Matty Rhodes, and Chris "Squidy" Bradley — three locals who saw a better way to experience Queenstown. We set up self-guided eBike and mountain bike tours that give you the freedom to explore the Wakatipu Basin on your own terms: premium bikes, detailed maps, shuttle transport, and genuine local knowledge so you don't miss the good stuff.

The idea started at the Red Rock Pub over a few too many beers and a shared frustration with cookie-cutter tourism. Jay had years of experience running group tours with Contiki, Matty and Squidy knew every back road and cellar door in the region. Together, they built something different — a service where the rider is in control, not a tour guide. We use the latest Trek and Giant eBike technology to make Queenstown's 130km trail network accessible to everyone, regardless of fitness.

Since then, Going Blue has grown from a summer bike hire operation into a year-round Queenstown fixture. We added winter wine transport, snow shuttles to Cardrona and the Remarkables, and private day trips for groups who want something bespoke. We've put over 20,000 riders on trails, maintained a 5-star average across 550+ reviews, and become the top-rated bike experience in Queenstown. The mission hasn't changed: get people outside, keep it sustainable, make it easy.
